There will always be a demand for baby parrots, just like there are still demands for puppies. There is a difference between responsible breeding and breeding exclusively for profit. Responsible breeders will only produce a reasonable quantity of chicks annually that can be cared for, nutured, and enriched. These breeders will also make sure that the bird is placed in a qualified home, preferably with an owner that truely understands the committment that it takes to care for and own a parrot.
Throughout the years, breeders have worked on producing a variety of color morphs of various birds. Again, this is profit driven. As long as the genetics are managed properly without inbreeding, healthy chicks can be produced and sold. Personally, I am not a fan of mutations, nor am I a fan of hybridization. I prefer birds in their normal color as mother nature intended them to look.
If you choose to acquire a baby parrot, please make sure that you are educated before you make a purchase. Make sure that you check references on the breeder. Prior to recieving your baby, you should have all of your caging and supplies AND you should have your AVIAN VETERINARY EXAM scheduled within 72 hours of your bird's arrival.
